Sales Engineer

Join us and help us structure the global web

What you'll do

We are looking for a Sales Engineer with a strong blend of technical insight and commercial drive. You understand how modern web technologies, data structures, and APIs work, and you’re comfortable discussing technical concepts with both engineers and business stakeholders. With your background in Business IT & Management (or a comparable field), you bridge the gap between our product capabilities and the client’s needs.

In this role, you will support the sales and account process by delivering high-quality product demos, validating technical requirements, and ensuring prospects clearly understand the value of our platform. You’ll work closely with Account Executives and the rest of the sales team, while maintaining the ability to dive into technical details when needed — without being a software developer yourself. In this role, you will also work hands-on with Databricks, Snowflake and BigQuery to prepare data samples, selections, and help prospects understand how our datasets integrate into their existing workflows.

Key responsibilities

  1. Deliver online product demos that clearly explain our technical capabilities to potential clients.

  2. Translate client needs into technical requirements and ensure feasibility with internal teams.

  3. Work hands-on with Databricks, Snowflake and BigQuery to prepare data samples, run tests and demonstrate integrations.

  4. Support Account Executives during the full sales cycle, from first demo to contract signature.

  5. Act as a trusted advisor to clients by explaining API capabilities, data structures, integrations, and implementation options.

  6. Identify opportunities for contract growth by understanding client workflows and technical challenges.

  7. Maintain high client satisfaction by addressing technical questions promptly and accurately.

  8. Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Data teams to ensure smooth onboarding and implementation.

  9. Provide feedback from the market to help refine our product and positioning.

  10. Report performance metrics, client insights, and technical feedback to the Sales Team Lead.

Knowledge & competencies

  1. Technical understanding: Solid grasp of web technologies, APIs, databases, and data formats.

  2. Data platform literacy: Familiarity with cloud data warehouses such as Databricks, Snowflake and BigQuery, with the ability to run SQL queries and prepare sample datasets.

  3. Programming literacy: Comfortable reading simple code or scripts (e.g., PHP, GO, Python, JavaScript), but not a full-time developer.

  4. Analytical skills: Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear explanations for non-technical stakeholders.

  5. Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; confident in presenting to groups.

  6. Negotiation & persuasion: Able to clearly articulate value and support deal-closing efforts.

  7. Relationship building: Ability to develop trust and long-term relationships with clients.

  8. Client focus: Strong commitment to client satisfaction, proactive in resolving issues.

  9. Strategic thinking: Able to identify contract expansion opportunities and articulate them internally and externally.

Presentation skills: Comfortable running demos, webinars, and technical walkthroughs.

Required background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business IT & Management, Technical Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a comparable domain.

  • Demonstrated experience in a technical client-facing role — Sales Engineering, Pre-Sales, Technical Account Management, or similar.

  • Affinity with software, data, or web technologies.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally with both commercial and technical stakeholders.

Dataprovider.com transforms the internet into an ever-growing structured database

The web is the world’s greatest information source—literally and figuratively. It contains more valuable information than all annual reports and trend analyses rolled into one. However, the web is also the greatest source of information chaos: it is difficult to extract qualitative data.

Founded in Groningen in 2012, Dataprovider.com has been structuring relevant digital actions into concrete insights that are used worldwide by leading organizations such as PayPal, Statistics Netherlands, United Nations, GoDaddy, Mollie, Takeaway.com and the investment industry. We’re growing fast, and we’re always on the lookout for new talent!

Our team

Our team consists of a wide range of professionals: data scientists, data support engineers, developers, designers, account managers, and more. It’s a blend of seasoned data engineers and developers who have been working here for years, and ambitious graduates who joined the team while they were students and become an inseparable part of Dataprovider.com ever since.

Our motto is Work hard, work together, and help each other out, always. When we aren’t working hard, we’re eating ice cream (anytime of the day or year) and playing board games, ping-pong, or American pool.
